Abstract:
The current paper describes design choices and first results of experimental work related to design, development and testing of the radio-frequency (RF) cathode neutralizer. Electron emission characteristics were investigated as a function of the inner electrode material and size. A 1,9A electron current was delivered by our laboratory prototype of the RF-cathode at RF power of 85W. An evaluation of the device performance is presented in this work. An attempt was made to miniaturize the device. Using a radiofrequency cathode seems to be a suitable way to develop a neutralizer, which is more robust with a potentially higher lifetime than classic hollow cathodes. «
