Abstract:
The objective of the introduced cognitive recovery unit is to reliably ensure mission operability by providing the means for exception handling on-board future spacecraft and thus, enable its goal-based mission continuation. In the focus of this paper are especially interplanetary spacecraft for their latencies in communication due to their distance to Earth and possible blockages by planets or the Sun. The concept aims at responding quickly and effectively to unanticipated events and thus, ensuring safe and high-performance operations for increased science return by achieving less safe mode events. This paper shows the respective concept, proposes a suitable architecture for the implementation on-board spacecraft and summarizes simulation considerations for a proof-of-concept study. «
