A Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) is a graphical tool to evaluate a system’s availability, depending on its components and their interconnections. In communication networks or electric power grids, maintaining high availability between a source and destination is crucial. However, in today’s large-scale networks with several nodes and edges, the network’s availability evaluation using RBDs is computationally intensive. Hence, we introduce (i) our novel Minimal Path Sets (MPSs)-based RBD evaluation technique, and (ii) PyRBD3, our open-source implementation of our novel method to evaluate availability using RBDs. Additionally, we compare PyRBD3’s performance on different topologies against the state-of-the-art solutions.
