This thesis examines the political and historical thought of the Austrian writer Stefan Zweig (1881-1942). On the basis of Henning Ottmann's concept of political thought as well as of the modern humanist concept of history, it aims to present Zweig as a palliative thinker who tried to face political extremism and violence with a messianic perspective of hope. Zweig offers different models of history. They imply the overcoming of nationalism and war through humanization. Thus, historical progress is not measured by military successes and power, but conceived in categories of humanity and peace.     «
