In addition to some owners moving to a more collaborative and incentivized project environment, a significant number of owners and agencies are also considering alternative project delivery models (USA: Integrated Project Delivery, IPD; Australia: Project Alliancing). This paradigm shift is driven by the fact that more traditional delivery methods, e.g. fixed price contracts, often fail the budget (cost overrunning) and the project is not on time. This presentation outlines the main principles of an alternative project delivery approach like • early contractor involvement • open book, • shared risk, • collaborative work, • unanimous decisions. The previously mentioned methods offer an collaborative approach, save cost and time and mitigate risk. These delivery methods can handle complexity much better and can be used by large infrastructure projects like highspeed railway construction or similar.
