Locating relevant information and distributing information to relevant people has always been a challenging task. In the context of the worldwide connection of information resources by the Internet and the increased networking in organizations it has even become more difficult since more (non relevant) information is available and more people are reachable. Computer based community support systems can provide powerful support in direct exchange of information and in finding people to exchange information with. In this paper we present a community support application we are currently developing, Comovie, a movie recommender tool. On the example of Comovie we highlight one common problem of todays community support applica- tions: the inability to exchange or reuse information. User profile information and contributed information have to be entered separately for every community support application. So, what one system has learned is not available for other applications. We argue that providing interoperability can solve several problems in community support sys- tems including the problem of âcold startâ.
