This work presents an optimal multi-fault tolerant control strategy for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSMs). The foundation of the control system is the Subdomain Model, employing Maxwell equations for calculating the magnetic flux distribution with high accuracy. Based on this modeling, a feedforward and feedback control is developed, that enables precise tracking of high-dynamic mechanical trajectories. The central focus is placed on the fault tolerance of the control. Combining the detailed physical description of the PMSM using Maxwell equations with an efficient mathematical formulation through constrained minimization problems, the developed control can be systematically adapted to motor-intrinsic electrical and magnetic faults requiring only minor adjustments. This generalized formulation not only allows the compensation of various individual faults, but also enables the simultaneous handling of multiple faults, resulting in a comprehensive multi-fault tolerant control. Overall, the proposed approach is most suitable for safety-critical applications, such as electric aircraft propulsion systems, where operational continuity and fault resilience are paramount. The presented simulation results demonstrate the robustness of the control system across a wide range of fault scenarios, highlighting its potential for the deployment in demanding environments.
